Southeast Colorado summers are no joke. Lamar's July highs average in the mid-90s, the area has topped 110°F, and it set Colorado's all-time record high of 115°F in July 2019. When your air conditioner stops keeping up, Evergreen Electrical & Mechanical diagnoses and repairs it quickly. We work on central air conditioners, heat pumps, ductless mini-splits and commercial rooftop units.
Most AC breakdowns start with an electrical part. The usual suspects are a failed capacitor, a burned contactor, a bad fan motor, a tripped breaker or disconnect, or a thermostat that isn't calling for cooling. Our technicians are electricians first, so we test the whole circuit, from the panel to the compressor. We'll also tell you if a recurring problem points to a wiring or power-quality issue that will keep killing parts.
Wind-blown dust, dirt from nearby fields and cottonwood fluff from the Arkansas River valley pack into outdoor condenser coils. A clogged coil makes the compressor run hotter and longer, which drives up power bills and shortens its life. Summer storms bring power surges that can damage boards and compressors. During every repair, we check the coil and the electrical connections. We can also add surge protection to protect the system.
Systems from before about 2010 often use R-22 (sometimes called Freon). R-22 is no longer produced, so recharging these systems is expensive. Most systems from the last 15 years use R-410A. Federal rules now require new residential systems to use lower-impact refrigerants such as R-454B or R-32. Existing R-410A systems can still be repaired and recharged. We'll tell you which refrigerant your system uses and whether repair still makes financial sense.
We answer AC emergencies 24/7. Extreme heat is dangerous for older adults, young children, pets and livestock. If your AC fails during a heat wave, call (719) 336-9111 and we'll get there as fast as we can.
Repair usually makes sense for a system under about 10–12 years old that has been reliable. Consider replacing it if the system is older, uses R-22, needs a compressor, or has needed several repairs in a few seasons. We'll give you a straight answer. A spring tune-up cleans the coils, tests the electrical parts and catches weak capacitors before they fail in July. Our maintenance agreements include scheduled tune-ups and top-priority service. See AC maintenance and tune-ups.

It depends on the problem. Replacing a capacitor or contactor costs far less than fixing a refrigerant leak or replacing a compressor. We diagnose the system first and give you the price before any work begins.

Often, yes, but recharging an R-22 system is expensive because the refrigerant is no longer produced. If your system needs a major refrigerant repair, replacement is usually the better long-term value.
